Hi All,

Here is an image I have been working on for a bit to keep me busy until the new camera arrives over the coming weeks.

Some pretty good seeing conditions were present over the last few days between bursts of fog and high cloud. Apart from that, fairly stable until the current weather front started to move through late last night.

Image Details
Target: The Eagle Nebula (M16)
Telescope: Planewave CDK 12.5 @ f/8
Camera: SBIG STT8300M (0.44" sampling @ bin 1x1)
Composition: Narrowband Ha 5nm, Sii 3nm, and Oiii 3nm. 30minute subs, bin 1x1, 18hours total.

Well Chris I don't need to talk about the stars as I know you know :mad2: and you have done a pretty good job trying to tame them...but, flip me a new flap jack :eyepop: everything else is bloody awesome mate!! Even the colour, although a little different, is pretty cool  The resolution is about as good as I have ever seen in a 12" scope, excellent Smithers, eeexcellent...:D

Very nice sharp detail Chris. Aiming for something similar myself later this season.

About as good as I have seen done with any scope. Should be an AstroBin image of the day IMO.

 Nicely done, beautifully framed- you can really see big dark mamma eagle feeding her hungry chick there. Great use of colour palatte too :)

Thanks Mike, the strange colours are probably because Green is a simulated Hydrogen beta. I've mapped something like H/S:O(H):O, and then fiddled a bit. I'm not happy with the brighter stars, you're right ;-) I have Planewave looking into some star test data I have sent in, which IMO shows quite clear spherical aberration or some kind of reflection is occurring. I suspect it is probably associated with the corrector. Hopefully I'll have a solution soon.

Thanks Greg

Cheers Paul, it is a good target, I look forward to your results :)

Thanks! I don't think it will trend well enough on there, my stuff doesn't get much following compared to the big guys haha.

Thank you, much appreciated. I am proud of this one, didn't think the fainter wispy gases would resolve on the pillars but they were pretty evident on the subs as they were coming down :)

Thanks, yeah, with the 8300 at this focal length I figured about as good as I can do is just try get a field that gives some immersion.

Excellent work Chris. Beyond the details you've presented, the narrowband hues you've selected are very fitting and consumable. Eye candy indeed. Well done.

Thanks Rod, it ended up a lot smoother than I was expecting. Pretty happy with it.

Thank you, I'd like to see what more aperture can do ;)

Thanks Jase. Starting to get the hang of narrowband, got a bit to go though. I'm hoping better sampling will reduce processing overhead so I can focus on other things.

Cheers Peter.

Thanks Marcus! :)

You've squeezed some great detail from an image scale that ought to be oversampled for typical seeing. Well done
