Here's a pic I took last year on 27th June of the southern cross region from a dark site. Only problem is, for longer exposures (this was 15 seconds, max. my camera (Canon A75) will do) I get so much more noise in the final image...anyone know how I can reduce this?

I'll be buying a new camera for myself at the end of the year, and one of my first preferences is to get a camera where you can do longer exposures with limited amount of noise

Hi Andrew

Just download Noiseware Community Edition 2.5 (Free) from:

http://www.imagenomic.com/downloadstep2.asp?product=nwcexp

I just ran your shot through and it significantly reduced the noise in the shot.

And it's free

Cheers

try taking some dark shots, ie all black with a cap on the lens , same settings then take that away from the image

Like houghy said - dark frames - also try stacking together 10 or so like shots, helps to reduce noise too.
Sounds like you need a DSLR..... A much better option for the skies.
