Full Moon 02-06-15

Feels like forever since I posted my last image, but I managed to get outside Tuesday night and have a bit of a play.

The clouds kindly held off long enough for me to take a bunch of images and try out the Baader FFC I ordered a few weeks back.

This image is a stack of 165 of the best RAWs taken fairly low in the sky with the Baader FFC and 450d.
The FFC would've effectively increased the focal length of my scope to around f16.

Tried my hand at a bit of colour enhancement too, not sure if I overdid it or not.

That's a very nice image Bret. Really captures the round form and nicely detailed. I don't mind the slight colour. Well done. :thumbsup:
Why don't you send some clear sky a little to the east ie Melbourne???

how did you go about stacking the raw format files? I know some planetary programs struggle with the file size.

I still had to convert the RAW files to TIFFs as I couldn't figure out how to stack the RAW format files.
A bit of poor wording in my original post. Sorry.
See below for workflow.

RAW-TIFF conversion along with cropping of left and right sides to centre the image was done using PIPP.

Aligned and stacked the best 50% of images in Autostakkert.

Ran stacked image through Registax for wavelets feature.

Final levels, curves and colour in CS2.

Hi Bret,
You might like to give Deep Sky Stacker a try. It will read and stack RAW files and present you with a TIF output file. It has some image processing capabilities too.

Hi Robert.

I use DSS whenever I image DSOs but I didn't think you could use DSS for planetary/lunar image stacking as there are no stars for it to register.

:lol: you're welcome. I don't like your odds for tonight though. Skippy Sky suggests clouds rolling over your area between 4pm-7pm :( But it could always be wrong :P

You may not want to use stars to register successive images of the moon as the moons motion against the stars is fast enough to spoil the result.
