What's the best way to obtain true South for alignment?

Depending on your magnetic deviation. Over in perth its about 1.5 degrees or thereabouts.
I use a compass attached to a straight piece of wood. The piece of wood makes the east/west. And compass north/south.
Your back tripod legs only need to butt up against the piece if wood for within a couple degrees of allignment.
Alignmaster then usually takes 2-3 iterations and im alligned
