Vixen R-100E questions

Hey All,

Hoping someone could provide some information on the Vixen R-100E which I recently brought.

I am a newb to telescopes so I have no knowledge of the scope and mount. (only experience is with a Mizar 60mm from decades ago)

I couldn't really find any info on the OTA via google. I did find this link about the mount which I believe is the Vixen Polaris:

Any info would be appreciated. In particular what would be the largest OTA I could put on the mount.

I paid $165.00 for this scope delivered. Did I buy wisely in terms of price?

Hi Daniel and welcome , that model of Vixen I have never heard of but its like Vixen,s in general it will be a great telescope. , is your one the tube ( OTA ) only or does it come with a mount like the photo in the link ? Either way it will be a great scope , enjoy.

Oops just spotted your photos , mate for $165 you got a bargain , awesome deal , the mount alone is worth twice that.

Good purchase Daniel. Can't say for sure but I reckon the capacity of that mount would be 4 or 5 kg max. There's a whole thread on the topic over at http://www.cloudynights.com/topic/149640-vixen-polaris-load-capacity/

Looked at the stars for the first time last night with it and was impressed even with the heavy light pollution.

From what I can find I think 5kg is the heaviest the mount can go.

I was originally going to put a 6" onto it but I think I will keep them together as they work (and look) so good together :lol:

:thumbsup: The Polaris mount will hold a 6 inch f5 with ease for visual , these are very good mounts , solid and well made.
