Hello,
Chasing Eris is proving to be quite a challenging project. I set up again on 19th Sep to clear, transparent skies, limiting mag 4 in the suburbs of Brisbane. After polar aligning, syncing on Diphda using The Sky Pro 6 and then fitting the ST7E, cooling, focusing, etc the clouds rolled in!
I dragged a camping mat outside and settled down to wait, patiently. After dozing fitfully for a couple of hours, around 12:40am the clouds finally broke and I was able to re-acquire Eris in the ST7 field of view.
I then played cat and mouse with sets of cloud as they rolled in from the NE, managing to manually grab 5 exposures of 10 mins each. I lost a similar number of sub-frames later due to clouds rolling in during the exposure.
After processing and stacking the sub-frames in MIRA AP, I noticed that I had captured (presumably) another asteroid just below and slightly to the left of the (brightest) mag 10.78 star, GSC 4687:1873; two for the price of one! Can’t be bad!
The dashes cover the period 12:41am to 01:34am AEST on 20th Sept. Can anyone suggest how I can track down the ID of this other asteroid?
