This pic was taken at the ASNSW star party at Ilford. It shows a dusty nebula (Sarah's Nebula) in Apus near ic4633. It's pretty faint so I really had to be very aggressive in the processing. The background is quite warty and it obviously cries out for more exposure, which will happen in due course.

Really nice, Geoff! I hope to do a widefield of this area one day and capture a large portion of MW9.

Cheers,
Rick.

Nicely done Geoff. I've attempted this from time to time myself and never been happy with the result. Yours looks much better than anything I've achieved.

Cheers

Nicely done. Plenty of little galaxies tucked away behind the dust of the nebula

A fine image Geoff. I'm guessing that this is a reflection nebula illuminated by an orange star, analogous to that around Antares. Is that right?

The impressive collection of galaxies seen through the dust shows how faint the nebulosity must be.

Stars look very sharp.

The dusty stuff is thought to be integrated flux nebulosity, more specifically a part of Mandel-Wilson 9.

Good subject with lots of dust and two interesting galaxies. Well done.

Great work Geoff. I've imaged this area before at both long and short focal lengths. You've done well to get extract the dust out of the background. The MW9 nebula is very cool. Its worth doing a long focal length mosaic of the area to the right of what you've captures to pick up the reflection neb.

Very interesting field Geoff.

Thanks Rick. A widefield should be good. There's loads more of the stuff around there.

Thanks Greg

Thanks Brett

Thanks Steve. It was quite a difficult one to process.

Thanks David. As Mike remarks below, the dust must be really thin for the galaxies to show up behind it.

Thanks Mike. See Rick's comment up above about IFN

Thanks Paul. Always nice to get a positive comment from one of the experts.

Thanks Jase. Yep, a mosaic would be a good project.

Thanks Steven.

Great result Geoff, really looks like dust mate, perhaps just a tad yellow ..not sure. Either way, it is a nebula dear to my heart as you know and I really enjoyed your rendition ..I am sure Sarah would have loved the yellow regardless :)

Thanks Mike. I might give the yellow a tweak and see what happens.
