Folks,
While still finding my feet with my 'new' rig, I decided it was about time I turned it to something well matched to the focal length :D
This is a stack of just 4 10 minute exposures at ISO1600 using my modded Canon 1100D attached to the back of my C8 Edge HD at f/10, so it's a little noisy and it looks like the wind was pushing my tracking off a little (it would have been facing almost into the wind) as the stars aren't perfectly round.
Even so, I'm pleased with how the experiment turned out, but appreciate that it needs more and better subs.
Many thanks to those who have encouraged and helped me get my guided rig to actually outputting some subs - you know who you are ;)
Cheers,
Dunk

That's awesome Dunk! You've got some really nice detail there.
That rig looks like it will serve you very well into the future.
I only wish I had more focal length to get a little closer and resolve more detail.
Bruce.

Slightly off topic, but I think that this is the second time I have seen
Wilik being surprised that an image was taken with a DSLR. With sufficient skill and perseverance, images can be taken with DSLRs
that are hard to pick from high quality CCD images.
Have a look out there on the net Wilik; I think you'll be surprised.
If you google "highest quality night sky DSLR images" you will see some that will blow your socks off, especially the one of the Andromeda Galaxy.
Back to topic now.

Thanks Bruce! Given that it's my first experiment I hope there'll be more to come :D
Thanks raymo!
Thanks Wilik! It's what I have, so it's what I use :D
The 1100D has fairly large pixels for a DSLR and reasonably well suited to the longer focal length, but it also responds well to the lower temps we were having up at SPSP (and this was taken on the warmest of the 3 nights).

Nice work Dunk, the 'burger' gas lane really shows up well with a modded camera.

Thanks Glen! Yeah I'm pretty happy with how it showed up all things considered.

That's a beauty. Nice detail and colour. There's no excuse now for not entering the imagining comp next year.

Very nice, Dunk!
Good detail despite the wind hassles. Pretty good star colour for 10 min subs with the DSLR also.
Look forward to seeing more from the Edge HD.
Cheers

That's really nice Dunk. Great colour.
Great image Dunk. 4 * 10 mins @ 1600 ISO is really interesting. Good to see some high focal length imaging.

Thanks Allan! Ha ha I don't think I'll be entering just yet, but who knows with a bit more practice ;)
Thanks Rod! A few more dark, clear nights wouldn't go amiss, I think it shows promise for something so small and light :D
Thanks Pete!
Thanks Rob! Yeah I'm sure the noise would be better at lower ISO but it's reasonably well behaved. A few more subs would help it out no doubt :D
Thanks Allan!
