Hi Everyone.

I wanted to know if there is a star party or astro camp in or near my area. I live in Gingin WA also what makes a good location for dark sky observing.

Hiya Pat

It has beautiful skies at night and most nights I like to turn off all the lights and sit in our farm and just stare right up into the night sky. I have a telescope that I am trying to get sorted out so I can take photos and such:)

If only there was somewhere in Gingin where one could find like minded star-gazers.

Hi wish I had seen this thread earlier. Well never too late.
So time to start a new thread for a WA mid year star party. Hope to see you guys on there. :)

You have a farm? In Gingin? Are the horizons any good and are you unbothered by street lighting?

Why not host a star party yourself? We're astronomers, we don't make too big a mess! We sleep in our cars, or pitch a tent.

Hiya Mokusatu that is a very awesome cool idea. I live on a farm with my aunty and uncle outside Gingin in Leonard Brook. We awsome skies out here and we are off the roads so no lights anywhere. I think hosting a star party would be cool. I will speak to my aunty and my uncle about having my crazy star friends come over maybe i be able to learn lots from you guys

Cool!

The Iceinspace community in Perth is not huge. Normally maybe a dozen people rock up to these nights and we don't really require much infrastructure. Access to toilets is always nice, but that's about it.

If you want to organise this I'll come over with either my wife or a friend (who is much more into astronomy than my wife!) and will bring a couple of telescopes. I have an 8" Dob and an 80mm refractor on a parallelogram mount. Nothing fancy, but there are some pretty big telescopes which sometimes appear at these.

Just organise it for a weekend near a new moon, and be ready to cancel the thing at relatively short notice if the weather is unsuitable. No point hosting a star party if there are clouds!
