I photographed a flying saucer! Second image from last night. The bright star is 109 Vir, the flying saucer, er I mean edge on galaxy is NGC5746 and the other galaxy top right is NGC5740. I do like the composition of this shot. As always I like galaxies posing next to bright stars. NGC5746 lies 95 million light years distant. Need to revisit this with a bigger gun...

8" F4 Newtonian, Baader MPCC MKIII, 206 x 30 seconds, Pentax K-5.

That looks great. I am surprised by the performance of your Pentax. This is the 16mp Sony Exmor sensored Pentax right? It is a good sensor. Its been the backbone of several cameras including the Fuji X series, one Nikon D7000 model, Sony Nex 3, 5 and 6 and a couple of Pentax K models. I have an incomplete mod on a Sony Nex 6 with this sensor. I should get it completed.

Thanks Jeff!

That's the one Greg. 16mp. I really like my K-5. In time I might try the K-5 IIs after I wear this one out. ;)

Thanks M&T!

Thanks Frank!

Thanks Mike. That means a lot coming from the galaxy master!

Thanks Rod! I'm sure the aliens in that galaxy are looking back at ours try to find a star to frame us with. ;)

...Just use the The Force Obi-Wan :fight: :P

Actually, I am desperately waiting for some clear weather to grab the colour data for a galaxy myself. I have 10hrs of deep Lum for it already but tried twice now ie driven out to my Obs on the (false) predictions of the weather man, only to be completely thwarted by clouds....now the Moon is getting new (perfect) I am going to a star party for 4 days, can't win  (although that will be fun). I am h-o-p-i-n-g either tomorrow or next day or if not, then after SPSP?...or MAYBE BLOODY NEVER :scared::scared:.....err? sorry :help:did I mention yours is a great image :D :nerd:

Sorry about your weather Mike. When you guys get bad weather it's clear here and vice versa. We are due for easterlies next week which will bring cloud and showers. But this week it should be clear every night.

What's the galaxy you are getting mega data on or is that a secret? ;)

Thanks Russ! I will be looking for more of these in the sky.

Really nice image Kevin, I didn't know this galaxy and you portrayed it greatly! I am always impressed by what you are able to do with an uncooled DSLR camera
