Apologies if this has been posted before; I searched for a couple of days but no joy... Has anyone here thought/ tried to use a gopro hero 3 as an auto guider? I have a gopro h3 sitting on my desk and was wondering (without tape), if it might be possible to attach it and use it as a guide camera. Just a thought and wondering what others think.

Cheers
J.

Nup, never been posted before that one. Looks like you're the guinea pig ;) Let us know how it works ...

Can you pull the lens off and poke the camera into a scope focuser ? ( The existing lens will be inadequate for scale and exposure I'd think )
Can it feed live video ?
How much control and latitude have you got with exposure ?
Can you get PHD2 ( or Metaguide etc etc ) to load the driver and video stream ?
I'd suggest starting with PHD2 as it will talk to most webcams once an appropriate driver is loaded.

OK, we're waiting  .....

Cool. I guess I will have to have a play and keep you posted. I am unsure if it can live stream from cable... I know the H3 can from Bluetooth, but that eats batteries like Homer Simpson eats pork chops. So to the books and check some things out then do what every good scientist does and experiment. Will keep you posted.
