I'd like to propose a forum game,"The Observatory Game"

Many of us have all traveled and have photos of visited Observatories from around the world.

Rules of play: This is a guessing game, first to guess either the name of the observatory OR where it is specifically, wins the round and gets to post the next image.
IF the winner does not have an image, just post, "ITS OPEN" and the next poster to post an image gets to carry on.
Please DON'T post an image unless you have won or unless the very previous post is "ITS OPEN".
Images of the instrument within the Observatroy are acceptable.

Its just for fun, and perhaps we'll go on a bit of a trip.

Any interest?

I will kick off by posting this image for guessing. This instrument is in Australia, but where?

Nice idea. I will say maybe its the Anglo Australian telescope at Siding Spring, Mark

I'll play that game.

I'll see your Siding Spring Observatory and raise it with a photo of the optician who was responsible for its mirror.

Here he is with his favourite 25" telescope. Where!

Bonus points for his name and which famous astronomer used to work for him?

gts055 (Mark) has it, my image taken on film in 1989.
But I'd be interested to hear AstroJunk's info :-)
Your turn Mark

PS: Make them as hard or easy as you like

Great to hear my guess was right. As I dont have any images, I suggest Jonathan might have something :) I have no idea who made the mirror. Mark

Ok, just to keep the game moving, here is another "easy" one.
Where is this?

I'll have a go at Jonathon's one, with the help of his YouTube hint.

Optician: David Sinden
The telescope: Espin 24 inch (not 25 inch, at least according to my reference)
Location: Espin Observatory Close House, Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland

Famous astronomer that used to work for him: Fred Watson (I'm guessing that one but Fred did work at Grubb-Parsons)

Re: The Observatory Game

For Tim's photo
I reckon it's the dome for the 74-inch reflector at Mt Stromlo
Before the fire obviously

Yep, it is Mt Stromlo, at least one of them, this one back in 1989.

I guess that means it is my turn.
How about this one?
Where is it?

Edit 12/05/2015
Looks like I need to give some hints. More images from the location attached.

Brilliant research :)

And yes, Fred Watson spent a couple of years under Davids wing - as did I as a teenager at his mirror making club! (that's nearly 35 years ago - boy am i getting on...)
