View Full Version here: : EQMOD now wont connect
I seem to be having issues all the time!!
After using EQMOD and PHD2 yesterday, EQMOD is now giving me timeout errors.
I actually had it running, sync'd my first star and then it timeout when I was selecting a second star and now wont reconnect all.
I tried restarting everything, reseating all the cables, I deleted an re-installed the comms driver, changed the port number and ran a repair on ascom all with no change.
I am using a cable from Bintel on an AZ-EQ6, anyone have any idea's?
I have a feeling it's the shoestring cable
:(

Ran the ASCOM diagnostic tool, it took 10mins & found some errors had some pizza and tried it again and now its working.
And now its cloudy :( I hope I get the bugs ironed out soon, wouldnt want to travel to a dark site only to have issues again.

Glad to see the pizza worked!;)
Ah, the joys of technology...
Al.
I am still having issues, I am 95% sure it's the cable, if I bend it the cable the connection drops out. Bend it back and it starts again.
Cable is only a couple of weeks old, I called bintel and they don't have any in stock and couldn't give me an eta. Well that sucks :(
Does anyone know of another supplier in Australia who I can buy one from? Hopefully bintel will give me a credit and I'll get something else.
Thanks
Jjz

Did you connect to the same COM port each time Joe, that makes a difference.
Bo
Hi Bo, Tried same com port and different com ports., even two different powered hubs, I ran it for about 4 ours without a hitch but as soon as I bend the cable 1/3rd of the way up from the USB socket everything stops. USB connection looks and feels tight.
If I return the cable quick enough the system recovers, wait too long and it times out.
During use it times out during slewing.

Hope you can get it sorted Joe,
Many people use velcro and cable clips to help with connections, so if it is a cable slack/snag issue, that should help.
Bo
Thanks Bo, hubs velcro'd in place will add some more further up until I get a replacement cable sorted. :)

Check the pins at the connector ends, a little tetch of CRC on the contacts can sometimes sort out minor surface oxidisation issues. Otherwise I'm thinking you have a dud cable with broken strands in the sheath. Anyone nearby you can borrow one to test with ?
Otherwise get online and just order one from anywhere who has them in stock, they ain't dear for just the cable and handy to have a spare anyway.
I think it's a case of broken strands, I don't know anyone who has one. Every supplier I can find wants more for shipping than the cable, can you recommend an online supplier?
Thank
Jjz

Joe , I use one similar to this: ebay #
141639267332. just got the guy at jaycar to solder the wires into j45 (or whatever) plug.
Cheers Andy.
I managed to get it running via an aten serial adapter and I couldn't get it to drop out :). I will give it a good test next clear night :)
