It sure is big hail. I think the our Qld supercell storms that we sometimes have out west might come close to this size, perhaps even larger. Personally the largest I have ever experienced is about 2inch hail and that was scary enough. Really don't want to see even that again nor anything larger. How about you, what is the largest size hail and where abouts?

Sydney had 2cm hail last week, which I've seen more than once in the short time I've been here  it's not 2 inch hail, but we had just had 300mm of rain...

[QUOTE=Camelopardalis;1171693]Sydney had 2cm hail last week,
Interesting point inches v centimeters.
In our astro world it seems we still use inches more often than not to describe our mirror sizes. Hail is more descriptive to me in inches and then when I thought about it there are still somethings we cant seem to shake the "inches" off - ie whenever I have bought a TV, even as recently as last year the salespeople still talk in inches. Sure I'm over 50 and grew up with Imperial but some of these salespeople are clearly in their early 20s.
125cm-150cm hail sounds big but 5-6inch hail sounds more impressive, even dangerous and for me a 30cm mirror doesn't sound as impressive as a 12inch. Weird eh?

We had tennis ball sized hail destroy the roof of our house, break glass on parked cars and punch holes a few inches deep into the lawn in Orbost some years back. Softball sized hail could perhaps kill a person - scary.

Sydney's infamous eastern suburbs hailstorm of 1999 produced them like that. We had one in our freezer for a few years that was cricket ball sized that we saved.

Trashed my sister-in-laws car.

Cool video, thanks Peter.

A tornado went through the outskirts of Fort Worth a couple of years ago and I watched it from my hotel room. I didn't see the hail, but I will always remember the sky turning green and the incredible lightning display.

Some parts of Melbourne had giant hail in March 2010 to conclude the best storm season in history. I didn't get it, but my brother's and his girlfriend's car looked like the surface of the moon! Largest stones were reported at around 4".

Christmas Day 2011 was another epic hail event. We missed out again, but there were lots of pics in the news of smashed windscreens, caved in roofs, white lawns and the like from other parts of the metro area.
