Both of my modded DSLRs have been offline over the last month (suspected internal condensation from the peltier cooler) but I managed to cobble one of them together again from my stash of spares in time for new moon.

This is my longest integration to date on this target, and I'm quite happy with the improvement over previous versions.

Telescope: Vixen VC200L, focal length = 1278mm, f6.4
Mount: Skywatcher NEQ6
Camera: modded Canon 1000D with regulated cooling @ 10C
Exposure: 89 x 600s subs @ ISO1600, captured over three nights

Processed with Pixinsight. Hi res here: http://www.astrobin.com/176122/B/

Feedback and criticism welcome :)

Thanks for the lovely comments folks. The humble DSLR is certainly a capable imaging tool. My other camera (a 450D) is back online now too, so things are on the up and up.

haha, funny you should mention that Rick... ;)

Awesome shot! Good to see other DSLR images around here. I think some chroma NR could be a benefit in the darker areas without to much loss in star colour, details, etc. Luminosity masks in PS would nail it! - hit the darker areas and leave the rest as is. Luma noise already well controlled already.

Are you using an external encased peltier or one attached to a cold finger as a part of a DSLR mod? Just recently built a case for my 6D. So far, so good (down to 6deg with 18 ambient), but I do have that fear of condensation.

Once again - really cool image!

Hi Richard,
that's a great shot - well done.
It's amazing what you can do with a DSLR.

I would have processed it slightly differently.
I hope you don't mind? -
I posted my version in the staging area of Astrobin not the public area.
Do you like this better?
