NGC6188. This is the first time I've imaged this starcloud. It's been on the list for a little while. What a rich and beautiful part of the sky it is.

From Wiki "NGC 6188 is an emission nebula located about 4,000 light years away in the constellation Ara. The bright open cluster NGC 6193, visible to the naked eye, is responsible for a region of reflection nebulosity within NGC 6188.

NGC 6188 is a star forming nebula, and is sculpted by the massive, young stars that have recently formed there – some are only a few million years old. This spark of formation was probably caused when the last batch of stars went supernova."

Imaging details: 195 x 30 second subs with a Baader Semi-Apo filter, 51 x 30 seconds with an Astronomik CLS filter, stacked in DSS, combined in Photoshop, Bintel 8" F4 Newtonian, Baader MPCC MKIII, Pentax K-5. The cooler temps have really helped keep down the noise and let the K-5 perform

Nice work, Kevin. Shame the FOV isn't big enough to include NGC6164/6165.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Russell!

Thanks Marc!

Thanks Rick. I will have to do NGC6164/5 another time. Looks like another nice one I haven't imaged yet. I shall put it on the "to do" list. Interesting nebula are good winter targets when I can get the camera cooler.

Very impressive Kevin!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

You are becoming a master at processing these short exposures.

Colour is good, quite smooth too.:)

Stars are overwhelming in this field huh!

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Justin. DSS chugged at this one for 2 hours! Then I played with it for another couple. The CLS filter really brought out the nebula well, as did the Baader Semi-Apo.

A beautiful photo Kevin.

Great colours and detail.

Such short exposures!

Ross.

Thanks Ross. The short subs help solve a number of problems, though they do create a couple more. I'm curious to see just what I can do with short subs on this short F4 scope.
