Sold off all my gear and replaced it with the following... hopefully no regrets!
William Optics GT-81 with DDG focuser and flattener
Atik 414ex (love my 314, but I couldn't resist!)
Saxon ED100 APO (couldn't afford a brand new 120 and the 414)
CCDT67 focal reducer
Nautilus 7x1.25" filter wheel
Prostar 50x180mm mini guide scope
Pretty sure I'll go with the AZ-EQ5 at this stage, still haven't 100% ruled out the EQ6 though.
Going to have to buy a new focuser for the Saxon when I have money again, and then OIII + SII filters, to go with my H-alpha which I've yet to get a chance to use. Gonna be broke forever!
So now that all of this is on order and no mount to put anything on, the skies have cleared up and the BOM is forecasting nothing but clear skies for the foreseeable future. Go figure.

The rain gods have been watching and you have struck a time when they are rebuilding their supplies. Very lucky for now but they will hit with a vengeance soon.
When it comes we know who to blame. LOL:lol:
At least you 'fessed up. Enjoy the new toys. Sounds good.
Cheers

Unfortunately been in the same boat but mine was the Titanic due to a few major issues (not voluntary). I have almost completed my re-acquisitions. Just need a few parts (Tak CAA and a set of Baader OIII and SII filters).
Good luck.

Great set you have got together , I think you will be pleased with the ed100 , great visual scope. , if you decide on the azeq5 mount I am sure plenty of us here would be interested in a report as these seem to tick all the boxes. , so to speak. .
Good luck.
Brian.

haha yep, that sounds exactly right. Thanks mate :-)
I saw your involuntary sell-out; glad to see you're building back up again. On the bright side I guess you can look at it as an opportunity to use the knowledge you gained with the previous set of gear to make better selections this time! :-)
Cheers Brian! I would have gone with the ED120 as I'm primarily an imager (with a strange hankering for visual lately) but I couldn't afford that and the 414. The 414 should offset the slower scope though due to its significant increase in sensitivity. If I just ignore the increase in read noise as well... In fact, it should still put me ahead, and I can use that more sensitive camera on the GT-81 as well, thus the decision.
Happy to post my thoughts on the AZ-EQ5 once I've had a play, but it will be from the perspective of someone that's never used an Alt/Az mount in his life ;-)
Have an eqdir cable on order but I'm looking at several weeks for delivery on that. Not sure if the AZ-EQ5 has even landed yet either; I was given a tentative date of the 27th, which would mean I could probably arrange for it to be picked up on the 28th.

Well, I've been convinced to go with the EQ6 like I had originally planned. The wife picked it up for me this morning, so I won't be in a position to review the AZ-EQ5 afterall.
