It was quite clear out at The Oaks (S/W Sydney, near Camden) last night (Saturday). As a group we had probably 8 or 9 scopes set up - our 12" SCT included. Jenny and I made it throught the first 20 or so Messier objects that were up, and started to get to undestand the FOV/magnification/clarity issues that you experienced guys know so well. Great fun! Most objects were as clear as a bell, including the Ring Nebula, Triffid and Somberero. I'd like to start to get to know exactly where these lie without having to resort to GOTO, but that will come with time I hope. The guys in the society are fantastic when it comes to knowing what to go looking for and when.
The night ended for us at around midnight as the dew was coming down really hard. We and the scope were soaked. We got it all home and spent the next hour drying everything carefully.
Thanks again to John (astronut), Noel, Dick, Martinn, Ned and the rest of the Macarthur Astronomical Society crew - we had a ball! :)
Cheers
Chris
