Running Chicken - yet another attempt

Ahoy comrades!

This nebula has provided me with some challenges, in particular regarding achieving balanced colours and without coloured halos around stars. It might be a perfect lesson for me - there is no substitute for a good number of subs...

This image is a result of combining about 5.5 hrs of Ha and 2.5 hrs of OIII.

On first impressions it looks rather monochrome I guess... but after a while, hey, it takes on a rather minimalist arty feel, quite nice actually :thumbsup:

Agreed. Previously collected colour data resulted in strong colour halos around brighter stars, and after several failed attempts to get rid of the halos, I gave up and started collecting OIII data again, this time with a new 3nm filter. Unfortunatelly, a large chimney in my neighbourhood's factory decided last night to add man-mad clouds to the environment, right where I was pointing my scope...

I really need to move out of Milton...

I guess I shouldn't complain about my trees. At least they don't manufacture clouds :lol:

I have some techniques for removing halos but it's very time-consuming.

But overall I prefer smoother lines with this nebula but would love adding more vivid colours :atom:

I read your post somewhere about removing halos and tried it with some success. I guess I need more practice and experience, but at some point I feel there is only so much one can do with the data, and my conclusion was to recollect OIII and perhaps SII with narrower filters; a great excuse to buy new astro gear :)

That turned out really nice. Lovely colors. Stars are a little muted but the details is outstanding and I love the color palette. Very pretty. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks Marc, I usually sharpen my images just a bit and it brings the stars up, but this time I resisted...with my 3nm filters most stars are actually tiny comparing even with 12nm filters.



Thank you Greg. After looking at images of this nebula by others on Astrobin, just a few had vivid colours, most were quite 'monochromatic'; I feel that perhaps there is not as much light coming out of this nebula at different wavelengths?

What can one do when weather does not want to cooperate? Practice old data processing!

My yet another attempt at bringing chicken to life...and since it's winter, I thought of using warm colours :)
