Taken from 37,000 feet. Re: the weather, the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITZ) moves north and south
with the seasons, hence it is pretty clear this time of year at that latitude.

BTW, you can see an inversion layer quite clearly hovering over the city

The track overhead Manila was a little unusual..normally more westerly, but can and does vary with the upper level winds on the day.

Yep...juggling between aperture and motion blur...Canon's 24mm F1.4 shows coma up to about F2.8 (this was F1.7)

Can't believe how well defined the stars and milky way are above all that light. Mind boggling really. Something you couldn't imagine without a pic..... :scared2:

Indeed....not your "normal office view" but I guess something I've grown used to over the years. You often get almost perfect seeing and transparency out to + 200 Km close to the tropopause.

I also suspect scenes such as this, have not been documented much until now, as cameras with an ISO 400,000 capability have only recently become available.

Ah...my earlier post may have led some to believe I used ISO400,000...yes, the SonyA7s can indeed do that, but it was not used in this case...it was a paltry (!) ISO12,800

Great series Peter! Thoroughly enjoying them. Can't you open the little side window that pilots hang out of when parked at the gate and take your pics without distortion :D It's only 37000 feet!
