My refractor throws up some fringe, I have been thinking about a filter. From all that I have read, the Baader 2" Contrast Filter seems to be the "ducks guts" in APO friendly hardware.
I have shelled out a little too much of late in Astro gear. I am wondering if yet another $200 or so is merited? Will the Baader produce a benefit worth the $200 or so I am contemplating spending. If the benefit is tangible then though I can't afford it I am happy too pay the price.
What are your thoughts on the Baader Contrast Filter?

I've got the 1.25" one that I bought out of idle curiosity. It works reasonably well in my 100mm Celestron f/5 Achromat when used at high power to look at planets. But the colour of the planets is yellow. I never use that filter at low power.

I'd rate it an okay purchase if one has an achromat, though I'm still not sure that the image is that much better than that from a yellow or yellow-green filter. Or better yet, than from a cut out piece from Ambervision or BluBlocker sunglasses that used to be sold everywhere for $2, which I thought was better than the standard colour filters.

If all you have is slight colour fringing, rather than severe chromatic aberration, are you really going to be happy looking at yellow planets?
