I took this narrowband image of Eta Carina over Easter on the one clear night. It was an almost full moon but fortunately the moon was more to the north of this object.

AP140 F5.6 using the 155TCC reducer/corrector gives a nice wide view.

Ha O111 S11 in the Hubble colour palette.

The final image from the amazing AP140 with its latest gen coatings before it shipped to Rick.

Its pretty colourful and that's intentional to make it quite punchy as Eta is really quite colourful in narrowband.

Punchy??????? mate that just knocked me off my chair :eyepop:

A bit harsh in spots perhaps but mate, the bloody brightest most impactful Eta neb I have seen I think! :)

Things I especially like:

- the flaming "hair" that connects with the Gabriela Mistral nebula.
- the little isolated crescent-moon toward 9 o'clock. New to me.
- The tendrils of OIII far out toward 2 o'clock, again new to me.
- Generally all the detail in the extreme outer field.

Some might say that the core is burned out especially in OIII, but that's probably close to inevitable if you want to show all those outer goodies, and also some sense of their relationship to the core, so superb!

Best,
Mike

:rofl:Knocked you off you chair did it? hehehehe good!

Thanks. It is quite violent looking isn't it. But then I assume it is in fact a violent area of the universe with Eta Carina poised to blow up at any time.

Thanks Mike. The core area is pretty bright. I did 20 minute exposures at 1x1. I can look at that to see if the O111 is blowing things out in the core area.

Thanks Rick. I can't let you be the only one having fun with colour!

Thanks for that. Your Eta is more refined! Mine more punk rock.

Cheers Andy. You've done some pretty bold images lately yourself!

Hi Greg,
It's a great pic but the processing has caused it to be blown out in the bright areas.
I hope you don't mind?
I did a comparison with yours on the left & adjusted on the right.
With some masked adjustments to the whole picture it
would come up a lot better. ( in my humble opinion )

cheers

Thanks Elio. It was a bit punk rock.

I have reprocessed it with a more conservative colour approach and the dynamic range is better balanced. Still colourful but not over the top.

Great photo Greg...it really has impact!

The detail and sharpness are superb.

The colours......hey man!

Thanks Ross. Having a look at it again with fresh eyes after a break from it it seems a bit magenta to me now. I think I will tweak this one some more.

I did another tweak repro and this one retains the impact I wanted yet is a bit better colour balanced so its more pleasing (at least to me).

Very nice Greg. I certainly like the colour but it is a bit blown out at the centre. However I guess that is the dynamic range you get if you want to record the outer bits properly.

Cheers

It's gone to a good home - Rick is bound to produce some magic with it!

Yes the core is pretty bright. I tried to tame it but that's the best balance of dynamic range I could get.

Yes to Rick. Needed the sheckles for the RHA!

That's what I thought also.

Something looks wrong, in the central areas particularly..? Looks like a registration issue..?

I liked the original bright image too.
