Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've had my old Sony camcorder out.

So this is my question...

To record holiday action, are DV tape based camcorders still current or has some other device snuck up on us while I wasn't watching?

I have an iPhone which obviously 'can' take vids and pics, but I find that generally if I go armed only with my iPhone, I don't bother taking much in the way of pics or vids purely because it's not a simple matter for me to download them onto my PC to enjoy later. And for vids especially, the iPhone simply can't store the amount of crap I film.

Any thoughts guys? Or are digital camcorders still the go?

I use my DSLR, it just has a movie button. Camcorders seem to have dropped off the radar I think.
My SONY eg does excellent video in MP4 or AVCHD ( Hi definition) and either VGA OR 1440 X 1080 12meg formats with stereo sound and wind noise reduction. I get about 2-3 hours of video on a 32 gig card and can still grab images anytime.

Hi Paul,:)

I purchased a Sony c-corder some 8 years ago. Maybe more. It records directly onto a "solid state biscuit". Lots of GBytes on it. Tapes are old. I don't know if they are available any more.

I also have a Cannon DSLR EOS 60D camera and that takes fine videos. The digital Sony is not used any more. I'll sell if interested.

Cheers:)
