Sun proms

March 26th. This image of the Sun and proms was taken thru a Solarmax II 60 mm scope around noon. Single exposure with a canon 550d camera. Sky was rough so I decided to go for a whole disc shot. Thanks for viewing.

John, I'm very impressed with this shot. For a single exposure this is excellent work. Can you please tell me the camera's settings as well as the processing you used on this shot . I actually have a Lunt 80mm and an DMK 41, but getting such a quality shot in one click is what I'm after. I want to take one shot and run a script to process the image for my work.

Hi Graham, Thanks for message.
I used 1/200 sec at iso200 with a canon 550d camera - with a f2.8 50 mm lens on. Attached to a Baader eyepiece (17 mm). i.e. Afocal method. This produces an overexposed image (needed to show up the proms). Processed from raw in iPhoto (MAC) and GIMP. You could also use any other method to get image but key to success is processing. You need to experiment with your setup. Once you have it worked out it only takes a few minutes to process. Hope this helps.

Thanks John for the info on your technique , I have since been able to
to automate an over exposed, and underexposed avi' for suface and prom details,as well as stacking in registax,applying wavelets,then loading and processing in Photoshop,i'm currently nearly finished automatic aligning of the images,using OPenCV,(Photoshop does it poorly),this is all done with one mouse click.This is for sales to my customers at outreach.
