Sombrero Galaxy at 4531mm -- Work in progress

The Sombrero Galaxy is undoubtedly one of my favorite targets. Since I do not own an instrument which is capable of capturing its beauty in detail, I decided to have a go at it using the 27" Planewave provided by iTelescope.net (T27).

So far I've managed to capture 2hrs of luminance data and 1hr of blue, just waiting for a night of good seeing at SSO to capture the remaining colour channels. Looking forward to seeing the final result!

I forgot to mention in my OP that this image is binned 2x2; the full-sized version was a bit "fluffy" for my liking, in spite of very good seeing when this data was captured.

After I've captured the red and green channels, I'll be putting the data up in public space for people to have a play with, since there are folks here who could teach me a thing or two about narrowband processing (to say the least). I've become a bit too comfortable with one-shot color data ;)

BTW: Have fun processing--it's not easy to get details down to the core.

I think M104 is one of the few galaxies that looks much better when you can't see detail in the core :shrug:, that bright glowing ball makes the galaxy IMO :thumbsup:

Whilst I certainly agree with Mike that the core is what makes for a good Sombrero, I can't help but to remain divided on this point. I recall Mike posting a Sombrero in the recent past and his insightful comments on processing, which have certainly stuck in my mind.

There are some interesting features local to the core which cannot be typically be resolved due to saturation therein, including a curious conical projection; an example of which I have attached. Perhaps someone can shed some light on the nature of this, as I cannot find any literature relating to it. :question:

A side-effect of the local adaption filter, maybe?
