It has been cloudy for a while here in Brisbane and I have been itching to do some more widefield imaging. Finally got some clear sky last night so I thought I'd have a go at the SMC.

Let me start by saying "Geez it's a tough nut to bag from the 'burbs". What you see here is the result of combining 2 sets of images for a total exposure time of about 40 minutes, and you can still barely see it. I can't get any more light into the camera, the aperture is as wide as it goes, the exposure is the longest it will do and the ISO is the highest it will go. :(

19 x 64 secs + 20 x 64 secs, f4.8, ISO 400.

Images stacked using Iris and then the combined image was histo stretched in Registax (I just can't get used to histo stretching in Iris, it's weird!).

Nice one Andrew, your dedication paid off big time 'cos if jumps out at you, no squinting required here.

Cheers

That's pretty good Andrew, you've done well within these conditions.

My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to stack 100 images of this DSO. This thread will self destruct in 5 seconds [cue Mission Impossible theme tune]

I can barely see the LMC naked eye from newcastle and often cannot see the SMC at all. I envy those with dark skies.
