We had our new moon weekend curtailed by fog at 1:30am on Friday night but I did manage 3 hours on M83 and I think the result is not too terrible. I hope to add some more data over the next few months but in the meantime...

Higher res version here: http://www.astrobin.com/166628/

Gear used was my Ceravolo 300 @ 2760mm focal length, Apogee Alta U16M camera and Astro-Physics AP900 mount. 6 x 900 sec Luminance and 3 x 600 sec Red, Green and Blue. A very minimal data set but I was pleased to get anything after the weather we've had since spring.

Only minimal processing in PixInsight. I'll do a better job if I get more data :)

Cheers,
Rick.

I think the result is pretty good Rick. Nicely done.

I am glad you remember how to use a telescope hands on Rick :) :P

The result is very nice.

Hi Rick,
Nice image -
I love images at long focal length.

cheers

Thanks, Trev!

It took a little while to get up and running, Lewis ;) Thanks...

Ta, Allan. I do enjoy the long FL stuff too. I was thinking about dragging out the FSQ-106 the other day but maybe I'll concentrate on the Ceravolo for another year. Ideally, I'd have room in the car for two rigs ;)

Noise, aside this image had great potential. The detail level is very nice. Now I have to make up my mind about which target and this image is making me lean one way.

What about both scopes at the same time on the mount?

Thanks, Paul. Would look good with the 12" GSO, I'm sure.

I'm already over the official carrying capacity of the AP900 and the Tak is a heavy scope. Perhaps once I have a permanent set up and a bigger mount :)

Not bad Rick. Very good for 3 hours.

Greg.

Thanks, Greg. I didn't think it would be worth posting yet but after a quick and easy process in PI it didn't look half bad. The benefit of a bright target!

Cheers,
Rick.

I would be very happy with that image Rick. Really a great job for only three hours. Oh, and this has been a crappy imaging season up here too! I'd be happy if I could get one clear night!

I agree with Andy  for low data levels, not bad at all.

Thanks, Andy. It scrubbed up better than expected :D

Thanks, Graz!

Ta, John. I'm sharing a scope at SRO and I've had crap weather on both continents :mad2: Hopefully, things will improve soon.

Thanks, Mike. Maybe I've been capturing too much data and spending too long processing it

Great looking closeup galaxy photo Rick.

Nice detail and composition.

Nice to get a AP fix now and then between these stuuuupid clouds!

Looking good Rick!

Great shot Rick. Quite amazing for the challenges you had and amount of data. Inspiring stuff.

I spent too much time yacking to get decent data on anything in the end.
Will have to check back over the season and see if I have enough RGB on the Rosette to go with my Ha

Thanks, Ross!

Ta Rod. It was the first for a long time. Hoping for a decent Winter this year.

I guess I should have expected a few things to go wrong without a test at home before driving up to 10CH. At least it was all fixable in the field, Rob. Thanks for the comments and hope you do get that Rosette together!

Cheers,
Rick.

Nice M83 considering the amount of data Rick. A bit of noise certainly but not objectionable in my view.

Superb, Steve. The faint outer limits are extremely well captured, even absolutely, not just on a photon-per-hour basis.

M83 has a tiny but extremely bright multi-lobed active nucleus, which processing to get the faint stuff just right seems to have lost. I wonder if a reprocess could recover it?

Very best,
Mike

Thanks, Steve.

I'm hoping to get some more data and then I will reprocess more carefully. I'll see if I can show the nucleus better in my final version. Thanks for the feedback, Mike.

Cheers,
Rick.

Nice Rick. Perhaps the saturation needs a bit of a push.

Yep, more data needed but looking very good so far Rick!

I do like what Ceravolo can do!

Thanks, Geoff. I was perhaps a bit too restrained. The final version will be more neon ;)

Thanks, Marcus. It was good to see some decent detail. Seeing wasn't too terrible for a change
