I grew up with those damn lights dancing above us at least fifty nights every winter, sometimes they were so bright coming in the windows that we could hardly to get to sleep. Damn light pollution ............ but a beautiful image none the less.
They were (still are) known as "Revontulet" or Fox's Fires, and were thought to be the Souls of bleeding warriors .

Yes. I had a modestly successful aurora chase, deciding just to run with the Sony. It actually needs more light than you think. ...shot both RAW and jpg.

Some af the .jpg's are a bit noisy. I can't process the raw stuff until I get back to Oz.

My guide in Iceland last year said the locals referred to it as "Green Sh#t in the sky"! On St Patrick's Day last week when the Aurora was visible in downtown Reykjavik, he was headed to a pub and just posted a quick iPhone snap of the aurora - has obviously seen it too many times...

Peter,

Great image. Sorry I missed this earlier. I was on my way back to Australia from Svalbard on the 23rd when you posted.
We passed through Skibotn on the way to the Finland border area one night. Annoyed my Swedish mate no end when I kept suggesting that Skibo(o)tn is the place where they make ski boots :-)

Hello Peter,

Nice composition and colours. I also missed this one earlier but knew you'd been on the prowl around Tromso.

Cheers, Chris
