Seeking Help

Hello Fellow Sky watchers. I family friend has kindly given me his 1998 Russian Made 150mm (6") Newtonian Reflector telescope and I am so eager to blast the skies with it. However, He couldn't find the eye pieces that he had and so I am hoping that someone could direct me to somewhere in Australia if possible to seek out such or if someone has any that they wish to get rid of. Also I am looking for its original manual. Thank you kindly.:D

From what I've seen most are eyepieces are advertised as being 1¼" (31.7mm) diameter so it's probable that one of these would fit yours. As to the manual, is Russian Made the brand of the scope or just where it happened to have been manufactured? Are there any other markings or model numbers and can you post a couple of photos?

Firstly you need to see whether it takes .965" or 1.25" diameter eyepieces. Bintel or Andrews will sell you a budget 25mm eyepiece
for around $30-40, so you can see if the scope is o.k. optically and
mechanically. If it turns out to be in good condition, you could perhaps add 15 and 10mm , the actual best focal length eyepieces will depend
on the focal length of the scope, 6" Newts are typically f/6 or f/8,
900 or 1200mm respectively.

Any chance it's a TAL of some kind? The N could refer to the Novosibirsk manufacturing facility.

Gidday Fred. I believe it's a Tal-2 Newtonian Reflector This 150mm (6") Newtonian Reflector telescope is equatorially mounted on a sturdy pier, it has a focul length of 1200mm an a F ratio of 8.

As has been recommended repeatedly for starter eyepieces at a good price get either ( or better, both) a GSO Superview EP in either 15mm or 20mm sizes. Bintel carry them and bang for buck they are excellent value. Wideview, good glass, and eye friendly.
