Lightning

I just found these 2 images lying around on my comptuer, I'd forgotten about them. Taken back in summer during one of those humid summer thunder storms.

The yellow sand in the foreground of one of the shots is the sand pad for my observatory that's now there.

I've seen & taken much better, but any good lightning shot is one worth posting :)

Very nice Roger, i'm yet to capture any lightning shots.. we don't get a lot of lightening storms where I live, and they always come from a direction I don't get a good view of.

I've tried to get some good shots of lightning but even with 30 sec exposures I think I took about 200 photos (thank God for digital) and only got two with lightning!:shrug: I'll have to try harder next time.

Do you use a lightning trigger or just a long exposure?

Just a long exposure. Normally pick something like 1 minute, 200 ASA, F/11. Something in that relm I think.

Actually thinking about it, I usually use my cable release, and hold it down either for about a minute, or when I have got as many bolts in the shot as I want.

It's fun stuff.. I love the rich colours and strong contrast that often come out in lightning shots.

[Edit: Cable release is handy when you suddenly get a bolt arc right over your head and have to pack it in ASAP and get the ... out of there. :rofl: (you get a good shot still)]

Great pictures Roger,
I love a good lightning storm, they are better than any fireworks display.
Just not to keen on them when I'm playing golf.
