The author of the Disc World books and so much more dies aged 66 from a particularly early/aggressive form of dementia..

Rest in peace Sir Terry. The World will be worse off without you.

I am saddened. Iain Banks and now Terry.

A very sad day, he was one of my favourite authors.

I can not think of another in the genre who has given me so many wry smiles, chuckles and laugh out loud moments. More than that, with the Discworld series he pretty much carved out a genre all his own.

A mate of mine met him some years ago at a book signing in Sydney and when he got to the front of the line offered him a couple of pints over the road instead of having him sign the book. Apparently the look of "Please lets do" was priceless!

That's a good anecdote Paul, a friend of mine of mine from school days had a similar one on Iain Banks when he first came to "fame; or infamy in those days with the publication of "The Wasp Factory etc" and the first culture novels. Apparently he was kicked out of a Nottingham hotel Sci Fi convention for being in an advanced state of refreshment and then trying to climb up the side of the hotel to his room, of which key he'd mislaid!"
A sad day indeed.

Sad day indeed! Great sense of humor and very clever writing. I will miss him as I still miss Douglas Adams.

I hope he has got his potato!!!! (Literary reference re Mr Pim).
