Here is the 16" Lightbridge "HOT OFF THE PRESS".:eyepop: It's basic appearance is the same as the smaller versions. It appears that the 16" will have the micro fine focuser.
Going by its height it appears that this scope instead of being a F5 like the 10" & 12" might be a F4.5, only time will tell.:D

Where did you get that info from? I wonder if Bintel will be selling them?

Will they have the 16" GSO mirrors?

What will the price point be?

This could be very interesting.. would go very nicely on an EQ platform!

The guy in fawn slacks looks like he's having a great time! :D

This news has caused quite a fuss over at CN as well.

As for me, I can't wait for all those second hand 12" scopes to come onto the market :)

Mike, this came off a German website.
I'm sure Bintel and others will sell these. Whether the price of the current scopes go down to fit it in. Or they might stay the same, and sell the 16" for maybe...... $2400? Even if the price is $3000 it is still a great price for this size of scope. I'm sure that there will be a long line of prospective purchasers.
It's my understanding that it's all a Guan Sheng project.:D

What would you bet that this is a hoax..?

If not then that base is going to be huge and a severe limitation to transportability of the 16" scope.

Took a look at the 12 inch LB at Bintel Melbourne, it's beautifully built and surprisingly compact as well. Hopefully the 16 inch will eventuate.

Indeed , if i were to buy one I could forsee keeping the UTA and rebuilding the rest with a traditional wooden rocker box assembly.

It looks like the base design hasnt been scaled up appropriately and will flex and wobble more than you would want. The spider doesnt look up to the task either.

Nope, Im still going to get my truss dob , and it will be made properly

Interesting news about the 16". I must admit that the 12" is just right for me at the moment until the 20" is built. I noticed in the pic that all the "Meade Lightbridge" signage has been removed" (interesting).

I imagine that the primary OTA will be a lot heavier than the 12". What do you think John?

Cheers Petra

It would probably be woth more just getting it for the optics and make your own base and OTA up for it. I am still alittle skeptical about this product. Wish they would just cut the cap and bring the b.loody thing out.

In the region of 2,500 Euro = in the region of 4,250 AUD.

Not so cheap:(

So for example if the 16" LB cost $3000, you would buy the whole package just for the optics, instead of getting a world class mirror for about the same money from M.Suchting ???

If that picture is correct BTW, that base would be wobbly as .

The main criteria to building a strong, stiff dob is:

1. Use good quality plywood.
2. Keep the rocker as short and stubby as possible.

This scope does neither.

But my view is a subjective one. I have owned the 12" GSO, and didnt really think much of the rocker that comes with it. Way too wobbly and made from cheap chipboard. However another owner of the same scope may not have any issues with it at all.

Speaking of which, my 16" project is almost finished. The finish is almost dry, and it will be time for final assembly this weekend. So get ready for some bad weather near Adelaide!!
