Having some fun with Hubble data

Something to do on cloudy days. Download some Hubble Data and have a go at processing it http://hla.stsci.edu/hlaview.html#

Here's my rendition of Arp 148 http://www.astrobin.com/161011/. I used broadband images for red (814nm), green (combined 555nm and 606nm) and blue(combined 435nm and 450nm). The wavelengths given are the centres of the range. Not sure how broad they are.

"Arp 148 is the staggering aftermath of an encounter between two galaxies, resulting in a ring-shaped galaxy and a long-tailed companion. The collision between the two parent galaxies produced a shockwave effect that first drew matter into the centre and then caused it to propagate outwards in a ring. The elongated companion perpendicular to the ring suggests that Arp 148 is a unique snapshot of an ongoing collision. Infrared observations reveal a strong obscuration region that appears as a dark dust lane across the nucleus in optical light."

If the Cartwheel galaxy is the "after" shot, yours must be the "caught bang to rights, guv" dynamic action snap. Well chosen.

Yes, most of the Hubble data was not made with pretty pictures in mind so it needs diligent searching to dig out the gems.
