Something to do on cloudy days. Download some Hubble Data and have a go at processing it http://hla.stsci.edu/hlaview.html#

Here's my rendition of Arp 148 http://www.astrobin.com/161011/. I used broadband images for red (814nm), green (combined 555nm and 606nm) and blue(combined 435nm and 450nm). The wavelengths given are the centres of the range. Not sure how broad they are.

From the Hubble sitehttp://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2008/16/image/aa/ (http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2008/16/image/aa/)
"Arp 148 is the staggering aftermath of an encounter between two galaxies, resulting in a ring-shaped galaxy and a long-tailed companion. The collision between the two parent galaxies produced a shockwave effect that first drew matter into the centre and then caused it to propagate outwards in a ring. The elongated companion perpendicular to the ring suggests that Arp 148 is a unique snapshot of an ongoing collision. Infrared observations reveal a strong obscuration region that appears as a dark dust lane across the nucleus in optical light."

nice target Geoff,

I reckon its something I might have a crack at seeing as imaging is out for another couple of weeks. cheers for the idea.

Nicely done, Geoff. Convincing.

If the Cartwheel galaxy is the "after" shot, yours must be the "caught bang to rights, guv" dynamic action snap. Well chosen.

Yeah, very cool capture that, intriguing... wonder what they look like now...guess we will have to wait a while and see

Thanks Russ. There's loads of stuff there to keep you occupied.

Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike. Don't think I have the patience to wait that long

Thanks Rick. Yes, this has been on my to-do list for a while. Finally got around to it.

Very nice, good idea. I never tried that, but could be something for long bad weather times.

Thanks for posting Geoff, you got me off my butt to try downloading some images too! It's a bit hit and miss, but the odd gem is in there.

Yes, most of the Hubble data was not made with pretty pictures in mind so it needs diligent searching to dig out the gems.
