What a difference a very bright object can make to imaging times. This image of the great Carina nebula is composed of 13.6 hours of data.

It is composed of :
SII 150 minutes
Ha 270 minutes
OIII 120 minutes
R 100 minutes
G 80 minutes
B 100 minutes

This image is essentially a narrow band image with an overlay of RGB colour to enhance the detail of the narrow band data.

BTW there is no noise control in this image at all.

Wow, Looks pearlescent - almost metallic - lovely colour palatte & detail - yes must agree it's refreshing to image a bright target :)

The full res image is amazing!! The detail is exceptional and so smooth considering there is no noise reduction used. Love the colour blending Paul.

I like the pastel colours and overall impact - very nice Paul.

It's a little bit black clipped though (or very close to) so there could be some more faint stuff in there to be teased out (?)

Yes been a bit busy of late, clear skies help with getting some imaging done.



Thanks Barb, the signal to noise ratio is very high on this object as you can imagine.



Nice pick up Marcus. :thumbsup: I completely overlooked the last adjustment I made and its impact. I have made an adjustment to the levels now and I think this works better. Most of the black point clipping is in the dark section to the top right.

Very nice Paul. Gives a fresh perspective to the nebula.The narrowband brings out details you don't see in RGB.

Thanks Graeme, yes the NB version is quite interesting to look through the gas to the dust clouds.

BTW I have now added an RGB image for perusal too.

Just saw that Now. Care to elaborate? Red to sii, green to ha and blue to oiii? What blending technique and ratios did you use?

Marc I did Ha to red at 27% and OIII at 32%. Each layered in photoshop and then flattened. Then I put the RGB together in CCDstack and did more development in PS. Then I did a complete combine of all the data and summed that used that at a luminance layer after doing some selective sharpening to certain areas of interest. Saturation adjustment and contrast enhancement.
