Going deep on Carina

This is just a teaser on this project and probably worthy to remain an image on its own. John Gleason would certainly think so I am sure. :)

This image is comprised of 9 subs at 30 minutes per sub. I am thinking I might have to do some very short subs to reduce the glare of Eta Carina.

What I find interesting here is that I expected to blow out the subs by doing long subs, especially given how bright this nebula really is; but this did not happen.

I am planning on doing a full spread of data on this object in the coming month and a half and hope to improve on my previous images of the Great Carina Nebula.

well, certainly deep and the sharpness/detail is very good, but your missing the 3d effect somehow. With such a common object its hard to be different. I dont know, maybe colour?, or like you say short subs on ETA and isolated processing to make it pop.

Well pointed out Fred. The 3D effect should be present now. I had neglected to take a look at that before posting. It did look a bit flat. ;)

Definitely doing colour, though it might take a few weeks. It would have to be really different to stand out I would say.

Very nice image Paul, sharp and clean.

Would be interesting to compare it to shorter exposures, say 5 min subs to see if 30-minute subs really make noticable difference on this bright nebula.

I have been waiting for better skies to get back to photographing the Carina - collected some initial data last month but need much more to finish the project.

I've always found this object difficult to process. Stunning in binoculars from the outback.

Looks like a textbook Carina shot to me Paul. I have to admit I'm getting a bit over Eta Carinae shots but it will be interesting to see what eventually comes out of this one. Could be a classic.
