Luna: Big, Hi-res Copernicus - 02/09/2006

Hi all.

Here's my last image from the session on the 2nd September. The seeing wasn't quite up to the large image scale, but fleeting moments of sharpness kept me hoping the final image would turn out ok.

Here's a hi-res mosaic of Copernicus, assembled out of 6 avi's, processed using 45 alignment points in Registax4beta, additional processing in AstraImage and Photoshop.

Not quite as sharp as I'd hoped it would turn out, but the low sun angle reveals many small features of interest. I wish I'd taken more coverage of the domes area in the top left hand corner, but that will have to remain a project for next time.

Excellent image. Just lacks that "extra zing" you normally produce, presumably ever so slightly soft due to the unstable seeing you describe? However, a big, bold image no doubt.

Get a bigger image, Dave! :) Well, bigger image scale when seeing permits.

Thats unusual, on my monitor the image came out very dark but I loaded it into Irfranview (all Ive got at work) upped the gamma. Now I can see all the detail, nice complex mountains to the right of the crater.
