Hi All,
I have a means to economically cut Rubylith to accuracy of 0.5mm (< but) and now decided to offer a cutting service for Rubylith filters. Firstly I will cut torch filters initially, later cutting screens up to a certain size.
Due to the high cost of postage economical head-worn torches are too expensive to deliver nationally so instead I will provide Rubylith circular filters initially for known torches. The head-worn torches are bulky items and just do not deliver nicely.
For most torches less than 50mm in diameter I can cut and deliver for $2.00 each extra filters for $1.10 each. With the the filter so flat I can post based on normal letter rates. If a person lives outside the normal postage area of Australia, I will need to quote delivery costs.
The first torch I can recommend for Rubylith filtering is Jaycar's Economical Headworn Torch (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ST3286). I do not endorse the torch itself although I do use one, so I cannot be responsible if anything goes wrong with it, but to say that the filter will not void any warranties. It can be easily removed to return back to the shop under warranty if valid.
NOTE: Jaycar has offered similar torches in the past with special Christmas offer 2 torches for $10.00. These torches have less LED's and they leak light badly, although they look similar to the one linked. An easy test would be to try and cut a black sheet of paper into a circle and place inside to see if any light escapes.
I will add more torches to the list once I have tested them.
For anyone that has a torch I can cut for them a filter for the same price. Things to consider.
Measurement accuracy ensure that no light can escape from the sides. The smallest light escaping can be very annoying.
The lens assembly must be able to screw on and off as the lens is placed on the inside.
The lens must be flat on the inside, convex, concave or odd shaped lenses are generally not going to work. I have not had much success with a number of torches I have tested.
Later I hope to organise other cutting up to a certain size so if anyone has any requirements please PM me the screen size to see if I can cut it. My cutting mat is only 12" x 12" wide (It s a US machine) but I will investigate a 12" x 24" cutting mat if warranted. I can manually cut but prefer not to at this stage.
