M78 and Barnard's Loop

The longest session yet with the Sony camera - 15 shots of 6 minutes Ha filter (12nm) and the same RGB, ISO 3200 with the JTW Astronomy modified Sony A7s and Takahashi E-130D.

Yes, I know, noisy as heck, pretty hard when the ambient was up around 28c with an uncooled cam. Pleased at the details revealed at the longer exposures though.

Great field with lovely composition Simon, nice sparkly looking stars and the colours look great too...Barnards loop is rather spectacular huh? Yeah, when viewed at the flickr large size t'is a bit noisy I guess but doesn't stop it from being a really good image of a lovely area :thumbsup:

I appreciate the challenges Simon using a DSLR this time of year. You have still achieved a good result though as it is a nice busy field. Good star colours and the image handles zooming in and peering around quite well. I'd be happy with that one.

Hi Simon.

When I was using my Canon DSLRs I found I was getting much better results with the "in camera" darks then with separate darks. The downside was that you are shooting double the time.

The Sony is obviously much newer technology but it might be worth a try.

Ha, well I'm stuffed then, I find clear night skies too valuable to spend any time waiting for darks to be processed. I'll try experimenting one night though.

Looks really nice Simmo - great framing, nice wide field, good balance of colours, contrast and detail - shame that sneaky little Dark Neb (LDN 1632?) opposite M78 got a bit cropped in the frame but regardless a highly commendable and very impressive first M78 indeed. Onya :thumbsup:
