Well, after all the info on using dobs for imaging I took advantage of the gap in the clouds last night to have a go at the moon. Lots to learn, especially with the software to manipulate the images, in my case Keith's Image Stacker for Macintosh.

Attached is a single photo but when I work out how to stack the images I took I will add that one too.

The camera is an Olympus mju300, one of the mini/auto series they produce. I just hand held it to the eyepiece and the moon was bright enough to get away with, Saturn and Jupiter showed up the hand movement but the detail captured even in the faulty shots was amazing (could see the Cassini division easily :)).

The shot here was simply cropped in Photoshop and changed to greyscale with no other manipulation used. I have six other good shots so I want to try to stack them over the next lot of cloudy weather.

Next step is a mount for the camera and scope and to get the equatorial platform working again. I think the bug has bit :prey:

I dumped them - they were rubbish but showed me what I had to do to imporve so not a waste.

Nice image Rob, good definition and only thing is that you might like to drop the contrast a bit. Other than that it is good.

A FREE TIP! Next time, turn the Moon around a bit so you can see the bumpy side! lol
