Been fooling around with a recently purchased old Skywatcher ST120/F5 scope for wide(ish)field narrowband imaging and decided to try it on the cone nebula. Done it before with a 10”/F4.7 newt with reasonable success and was pleased to find the wider field of the refractor brought out more of the fainter bits reasonably well. It's no “photo of the year” scope but I'm certain I'll get my monies worth of fun out of it.

The wide field shot is impressive. Last time I imaged it (years ago, with similar kit) there was almost nothing there! The Fox Fur is starting to shape up. Your tracking is fine. I reckon you could go longer than 5 minutes there. That would reduce the contribution of read-out noise.

Quite good Stephen,
I had to click " fit image to window" to view them in Mozilla Firefox
otherwise the pics were cut in half.
Specs say now
3,212px × 2,447px (scaled to 1,222px × 931px)

Very nice. I see some of the bow shocks (HH objects) to the north; the cometary nebula just out of frame to the north has several flows associated with it.

Some nice images there, Stephen. Did you manage to get your ONAG working with that 120/F5?

Good question. Was in such a rush to play with it that I made a small platform with an old guide scope and another old refractor (80mm/F6). Think I assumed not enough back focus after fitting a rotator and filter holder But I'm wrong. Just checked and have about 74mm backfocus so it's not only possible but will be done shortly. The guider might be a problem but I've got an unusual focuser that can go a lot closer to the ONAG so it might work.Thanks for the wake up call.
