Attached are my first attempts at photographing jupiter - on 13/2 i spent an hour or so collimating as best as I could with the seeing, couldnt get it as spot on as I would have liked.

Canon 5D MK III, Televue 4x powermate, EdgeHD 925.
Backyard EOS to grab 1000 frames - ISO 800, 1/40s
Registax to reject all up about 40% of the frames.
Wavelets in Registax then minor photoshop to adjust exposure and colour.

I suspect resolution of the DSLR is an issue to get proper sampling at f/40 on this scope...clouds stopped me from trying my QHY5L-II and IR-RGB filter set, which ill give a go next i think.

either way im stoked with what i could do, and was awesome to see Io and a shadow transit for the first time :)

If anyone has any suggestions for improvement please let me know!

Well done Krishan, I can't get anywhere near that good with my DSLR!
Cheers

Thanks Bob! i think seeing and collimation are still my enemy - the seeing also makes it very difficult to get good focus. but live view helps immensely. i found even 1/8 turn on the fine focus knob makes a difference so have to spend time focusing properly.

if clouds are out of thw way tonight might try IR RGB instead, see how that works for me.

I agree. Last night (2/14 PST) seeing was exceptional in California. I pulled out my iphone 5s and took the following hand-held photo of Jupiter and IO moon. Just one unprocessed frame. I took the photo at 500X. I was surprised to have captured IO as a disc. If seeing did not cooperate, I would have ended up with a washed white disc without features at that magnification. Attached photo is little fuzzy because I took it hand-held with an iphone. Jupiter looked superb a the eyepiece with plenty of details.

Awesome for an iphone Jason! thanks for confirming to me that it probably is most likely to be my seeing.

Very nice Jason, hopefully one day I get seeing that is at least better than mediocre!
