I took this a while ago and published the Ha component of the image.
This is 6 x HaLRGB Proline 16803 camera with a Pentax 67 75mm F3.5 lens.
Taken from my home observatory in Kurrajong and mounted on a PME mount autoguided with a MMOAG on the CDK17. Have a tour around.

Thanks Mike.
Thanks Rod. That 75mm lens is pretty sharp. These old Pentax 67 lenses are quite a bargain.

Thanks Glen.
Thanks Allan. Its still my favourite overall target that I first imaged at the beginning of doing astrophotography.
Thanks Rick.

Magnificent. The dustiness makes it far more believable that our Galaxy looks something like NGC253 or Sombero from the distant viewer!

Our galaxy must have an enormous amount of dust. I assume this dust is fine dirt and is the basic stuff planets are made of.
Yes that lens is a beauty. Best stopped down one or two stops but very sharp especially considering it only cost about $100 or so.
Thanks Rolf. I like to do one each year and try to improve on it. I'll start earlier this time.

Greg, do you connect the Pentax 67 75mm to your CCD via the M42 threads, or do you need a separate adaptor? I was wanting to connect a lens in the 100-150mm range to my QHY22 for wide field imaging.

Awe inspiring image Greg!
I also have the same question as Barry...
I want to attach the 11000 to my Canon 100mm Macro for some widefield action.
How do you do it?

You'd have to check with QHY for an adapter and if they don't sell one check with Precise Parts. My adapter was from FLI and meant to fit on the FLI filter wheel. It was a tad too long in its threads so screwed all the way in would interrupt the filter wheel turning so I had to back it off half a turn. Later on I put a bit of masking tape on the thread so it would screw tight but not all the way in and that worked well.
Some camera makers sell lens adapters - Starlight Express, QSI, FLI, SBIG and probably Apogee. Some may not and you may need to make your own. One way would be to simply buy a cheap mount adapter for Canon EF lenses to say Nikon off ebay and then screw and tap and bolt it onto something you already have or could get . You would need to make sure the adapter is roughly the lens flange distance to the sensor (flange distance is the distance from the end of the lens to the camera sensor, for example for Canon its something like 48mm and Nikon 44mm (approx.).
Thanks very much for the nice compliment.
I have a couple of Pentax lenses - the 55 (not very good but OK stopped down to 5.6) the 75 - sharp, the 165 (very sharp and no chromatic aberration wide open at F2.8 - I think its easier the longer the lens)
300 F4 (non ED version - a bit heavy but good for narrowband, the EDIF version is the one to get).
Thanks Steve. Yes its very sharp, not without its flaws but sharper than most lenses.

Thanks Steven. I am quite partial to Milky Way shots. I was thinking the other day that if Earth were further up from the galactic plane we would see it as a spiral in the night sky even if an angled view. That would be pretty spectacular.

You certainly are Greg and you have some beauty's in your collection now  while I don't recon this is your best it is still great...and better than the only one I have ever done using colour film and prints on a borad back in 1984 :P

Hi, Greg, I just spent a pleasant 20 minutes comparing your color and H-alpha shots. Both are magnificent. The two side by side are a triumph. If you ever wanted a virtual knighthood, and were laid up with the flu, you could quite profitably annotate the two, perhaps adding constellation glyphs, and publish it as Greg's Guide to the Galaxy. Cheers, Mike.
