Hello,
my neighbour is looking to spend up to $100 on bino's.
does anyone have any suggestions? it is solely for astro use.
I note that Andrews has a quite a few under a hundred, and the celestron cometron (7x50) gets a pretty good wrap (although would need to be bought o/s and delivered).
recommendations would be appreciated.
cheers

7x50 is pretty much an optimum size.
Any larger and they get too heavy to hold for long, requiring a stand; more magnification and handheld is too shaky - definitely need a stand.

thanks for that guys  i'll pass that on to him.
I might actually get a pair myself, perhaps the 8 x 60 for $129.

Russell, the 8x60s would give you a massive 7.5mm exit pupil - are you sure you're going to be able to take advantage of that at night? ;) (if not, you'll be reducing the effective aperture, e.g. if your pupil only expands to 6mm, then they'll be working like an 8x48 pair).
