Hello :hi: , another new member to IIS. I've been interesrested in astronomy for many years and have finally this year decided to take my interest further. I have joined a local astronomy club, haven't had much luck with viewing though, it always seems to be clouded over or raining. I don't have a telescope yet (it's on the christmas list), just some 7x50 binoculars.

Well that's me. Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

As a relative newcomer myself, crystal_stars, I welcome you aboard.

One thing I would recommend is that you read the various messages, even though they may not necessarily be of interest to you. It's amazing what little bits of information you can glean.

Don't worry yourself about the 7x50 binoculars either - they're a good (read terrific) way to start to find your way around the sky. I started with a 50mm telescope and am still trying to catch up with those who used binos.

Welcome, every astronomer in the Northern Hemisphere dreams of the day they can stand where you are with 7 x50 binos so how good is that. I use 750s half the night :eyepop: thats right the smallest gets used 50% of the time:)

Keep on with those 7x50s, I used some for years before getting my scope and as a result I am pretty good at finding my way around the sky, understand the moon phases, the movement of the Jovian moons, the movement of planets along the ecleptic and the movement of the constellations throughout the year.

Try setting yourself up in a good reclining arm chair for observing then your views will be even better.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

The binoculars have been good. Have seen some nice clusters through them, and have also found them good for exploring the moon features. The reclinig chair sounds good, a bit better than the current lawn chair I use.

A great way to learn about scopes and observing is to join a Club (which you have done) and to get along to Astro Camps etc. We have an Astronomy camp up here 20 minutes west of Ballarat at Snake Valley in November. See here: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=12072

You are more than welcome to come along and meet the folk, enjoy observing in the dark, and learn heaps of Astronomy tips and tricks.

Glad you're enjoying your bino's. I still use mine all the time. Do you have a tripod for them? Then you can have hands free viewing.
