Saxon EQ 1149

Hi Guys

I am new to this forum so if I have posted this in the wrong forum I apologise.

So I had some reward points which I redeemed for a Saxon EQ 1149 (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/newtonian-reflector-telescope-f1149eq.html)

I have assembled it, but I think I have done something incorrect. I can move the telescope to see objects through the eyepiece, but I cant see anything through the finderscope. The manual said that they both should be aligned so that its easier to view at night.

I am pretty new to all this and any help would really be appreciated.

Hi Sid, welcome to the forum.

Usually the procedure is to match the finderscope and main scope in the daytime on a distant tree or other object.

Hey Cometcatcher, thanks for that.
Using the eyepiece I have managed to focus on an object which is about 500m away. But I cant seem to get the finderscope to align with it.
I have tried moving the finderscope, but with no luck... I am sure I am missing something very simple, but just cant seem to understand what.

It is possible that you are running out of adjustment on the three adjusting knobs at the top of the finderscope mounting bracket. Try setting the three knobs with roughly the same amount of thread showing, and then loosen the knobs at the base of the finderscope mounting bracket. You can then move the scope and bracket together to get the finder roughly aimed at whatever object the main scope is aimed at. Tighten the base knobs, and then accurately align the finder with the main scope using the three aforementioned adjusting knobs.

The other thing to try is make sure you have your lowest power eyepiece in the scope, which would be the 25mm one.
Also can you see anything through the finder at all?

Thanks for that. I have the 25mm which I have been using. I could see the trees in a distance through the finder. But could not get them in focus.

In focus in the scope or in the finder? I will assume you mean the finder. Did it come with instructions on how to use the finder? From memory, the focus is adjustable, I will try and find my old one and check it.

Yes could not focus in the finder. The instruction manual isnt of much help unfortunately :(
