These little buggers are pretty quick, so a lot of luck is needed to get a flight shot in focus. You have done pretty well.

Cheers Reverend.

Thanks Ray, Im wondering if 1/2000 is enough for these birds. I found a little spot were the like to skid along the water. I could only focus on guesstimated spot in the water and wait for a fly by. I could go to F8 to get more focus area but ISO goes crazy. Ahh my kingdom for a F2.8 lens..

Tamron @600mm F9, 1/320 hand held this is 100% crop. I feel a Monopod or tripod is required at lengths beyond 400mm as hand shake becomes extreme.

Totally with you on that. Adding a monopod to your gear (prefer a ball head) can return a better result on the long telephoto lenses. Tripod of course will give a very stable platform, but when I go out walking I like to minimise the weight, and the monopod acts as a walking stick :-)

That high res image is pretty damn good mate. Nice clear eyes.

Getting the mono pod delivered today hopefully the weather holds not likely this weekend. Might be time to visit the Aquarium this weekend.
