Hey all.
Very new to this. I live northern suburbs of Adelaide so my viewing space is limited to what's over my yard and light pollution is high. Can anyone recommend any good viewing spots 2-3 hours north of Adelaide? I know I wont get away from light pollution completely but just wondered if best viewing would be on a hill somewhere or out on a plain?
Ta much!! :P

Yo Scott,

I live out at Gawler. If you join up with ASSA, it's only $55 for a family membership, you get their awesome monthly newsletter, and access to their Stockport Observatory. They have Member Nights and Public Nights (Star Parties) a couple of times a year. You can actually go anytime you like as well, as long as you let someone know.

Hi Scott. I grew up in Renmark and some of the best observing conditions I have ever seen have been around there. The transparency was so good because of the dry climate, and the sky is very dark. A bit further away, the Flinders Ranges are very popular for observing holidays. As suggested the ASSA is your best place to start.

Thanks everyone. Was looking at the ASSA site last night. Not too far either. Went to flinders about a month ago fo anniversary. Wife kindly let me take scope but was a full moon that weekend. Typical.

Yes, takes me about 30 min from here, and I go the long way so as to stick to the bitumen. Not sure where you are, but it's only an extra 15 from Salisbury, 10 from Elizabeth or 5/6 from Hillbank.

Easy then. Out on the Main North, and stay on it until you just about get to Tarlee, if you want to stay on the bitumen, otherwise, turn a bit earlier.
