Rosette Nebula

Hi,

This is the first image processed using my SBIG 8300 with self guiding filter wheel. I used my W/O 110 Flt and stacked and processed in Photoshop.

I used a technique described by Rob Gendler to blend the Hydrogen Alpha with the red channel on top of the Ha and I had 80% Ha and 20% R as the opacity setting and then flattened this image to stack with the green and blue channels and then processed as normal. I do not have much data but always intended for this to be the learning image before I go on to longer images.

Time was 40 minutes Hydrogen Alpha (20 min subs) binning 1x1 and 20 minutes RGB (5 min subs) binning 2x2. Darks applied but no flats and taken from my backyard in suburbia on the sunshine coast. Astrophysics 1100 mount used.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. .

Really nice star colours, but I would like the nebulosity to be somewhat brighter.

You have some nice gear Mark; I am looking forward to seeing more images from you :)

Looks great, Mark, but a bit dark as Slawomir suggested. Good to see you are using some of your new gear! When does the scope arrive?

I think you need to re-process the image.
I had a quick go but there was only so much
I could do with such a small file.

Thanks for the feedback. Rick the scope should arrive between March and June. Can't wait. Allan could you please tell me what you did with regards to steps. I just don't really know what I'm doing.

Hi Mark,
It's just a matter of first balancing the RGB so they are similar in intensity.
You had it nearly all red.
Look at the histogram in Photoshop.
Then stretch it using curves.
I actually split the channels into separate RGB & worked on
the mono images first then re-combined them.
I also used a star mask when stretching to try & control the stars a bit better.
