This image was captured with Sony's new A7s full frame DSLR, and Sigma's 50mm Art series F1.4.

I am blown away by this impressive camera. As for the Sigma, equally impressive. One of the best 50mm primes available on the planet at the moment, regardless of price.

The image was taken approaching Darwin at 39,000 feet. Thin upper level cloud and associated light turbulence caused haze and motion blur, so technically the image has its problems.

That said, I hope you enjoy the view from my office window :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I do have some gripes about the Sony, mainly due the lack of native lenses
for the full frame Sony Alpha's.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EOS ADAPTER USERS.

I purchased a not inexpensive chinese knock-off adapter which worked fine...or so I thought!

No OEM canon lenses gave any hint of problems....BUT...Attaching my Sigma 12-24mm I got a waft of fried electronics! & lens error :sadeyes:

RIP the electronics of one not-so-cheap sigma lens.:mad2:

So, if you have a swag of Canon compatible glass and want to use it with the A7r...I strongly recommend you get the Metabones MKIV NEX adapter

Yes lack of native lenses is the usual complaint about Sony A7 series. The Zeiss 35 and 55 are great, the 70-200 is supposed to be quite good, the 24-70 poor at 24 and 70 and good at 28-60.

I have the Metabones 3 EOS adapter and it works fine on my A7r. The AF is painfully slow but accurate. Manual focus is the way to go with these cameras anyway as the EVF and focus peaking with magnified view makes it a breeze and fast.

Riveting really - its an alien view for most of us - takes quite a few minutes to comprehend what's natural and artificial light. Would have been such a shame to miss out just because of minor imperfections from some turbulence and being hand held.

Hope you get a chance to post some more from "the office" sometime.

Wow Peter, that is very impressive, especially considering you were using ISO40,000! Really love the look of the clouds too. Heard plenty of great things about the Sigma Art series 50mm but sorry to hear your other Sigma lens got fried due to the knock off adapter.

Good stuff, Peter. It's s great camera. But then I'm a Sony user from way back and have had a A7s for months. :)
That goes for both FF A-mount and FF E-mount lenses. I have the genuine Sony A to E adapter.
That means I can get the real 150-500 focal length out of my Sigma zoom since it is a FF lens.
If I get want to buy any non-Sony FF lenses I'll get the right adapter. I don't want any more fried electronics.

Thanks again for the positive comments... I suspect after 20,000 hours of flying I have become a little blasé about seeing the planet from 11 kilometres or more above the ground....which is remiss of me.

There have been even more amazing sights that I have been lucky enough to witness but sadly did not have a camera that could document them. I strongly suspect the A7r will document a few more before I retire :)

Peter, that's an amazing capture. The Sony is a step in the right direction. A few more years, and night shooting as we know it will be superceded.
