I'm referring to the strip down the right hand side of the page.

My normal web viewing behaviour is to block all ads. However when I joined here and became a regular, I modified the filter rule to allow the ads to appear, as I know they're income to help keep the site running. And I've actually found a few of them useful since almost all are astro focused.

However, the ad that isn't - from the googlesyndication.com domain - has been aggravating me a bit lately with rubbish I do not want to see. I can't recall seeing any advertisement there of any relevance to this site or anything I'm remotely interested in.

I've now blocked that ad panel specifically.

The only reason I've bothered to write this, is that if you have any control over the content of the ads that appear in that specific panel, you might like to review and clean it up a bit.

Thanks Chris, but unfortunately the Google Ads are 'context-sensitive' and usually try to display an ad relevant to the content on the page you're viewing.

Of course it sometimes gets it wrong and will often display rubbish, but apart from blocking individual URL's there's no control we have over it.

Thanks Mike, I thought that might be the case. At least I can deal with that one particular problem.

One thing about Google ads, you can usually adjust settings or erase some of their presumptions. Click little triangle in top right of advert, then look to opt out or change the guesses they have made about you.

If nothing else you'll get to enjoy some different useless advertising....:)
